Our commitments to Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI)
We aim to celebrate diversity and promote equality throughout our services and communities.
We are committed to fulfilling our Public Sector Equality Duty (PSED) as set out in the Equality Act 2010. This means working to achieve the following:
- Eliminating unlawful discrimination, harassment, and victimisation, and other conduct prohibited by the Act
- Advancing equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic (see below), and those who do not
- Fostering good relations between people who share a protected characteristic, and those who do not
Reasonable adjustments
Reasonable adjustments are changes or support that employers make to help disabled or long-term health condition candidates participate in the recruitment process.
Applicants are encouraged to identify any assistance or adaptation which would assist at interview and in undertaking the job applied for (e.g. sign language interpreter, level access, reframing questions to be Autism Friendly etc.). This information is requested in the application form.
Our application forms state we will, wherever possible make adjustments and offer alternatives to help disabled applicants through the Council's interview and selection process.
